We are currently building a daycare center for a Burmese community outside Kho Lak in Southern Thailand.

In January 2007 Mari travelled to Southern Thailand and visited a Burmese Community. She saw how much this community was still suffering from the Tsunami disaster. They lost everything in the Tsunami and have not received any help from the government. There is a need for a daycare center that will give these children a base to grow from. Equally important, it will give mothers a chance to work and provide a much needed income while their children are safe and happy. During the year 2007 - 2008 Mari's Children will be building a day care center in this community with funding from last summer's donations. There are several different ways to sponsor the annual costs of this project.

Each of these Children has been sponsored by The Art Farm In The City Preschool to attend school this fall

In January 2007 Mari spent time visiting families affected by AIDS/HIV. The living situations are horrendous. Often 15 people in a family are all living in one small shack. We are sponsoring the children to be able to attend school. Thailand has a socialized school system and health care. There is, however, a small fee for tuition, uniforms, food, school supplies and, if needed, transportation. Children are likely to end up in the care of grandparents, friends of other relatives because both parents are often HIV positive and unable to care for them or work. Even this small fee is too much to afford and these children may not be able to attend school. Help is greatly appreciated.

 

We are very excited about our Art Farm in the City Preschool sponsorship program. Every family who sends their child to preschool at The Art Farm in the City automatically sponsors a child in Thailand who would otherwise not have been able to attend school.

This program was just started in March 2006 and we are proud that already 24 children started school in May 2007.
